CLUB MEMBERSHIP INFORMATION
Thinking of joining our club? Have you just joined?
The purpose of this page is to make you feel welcome at our club and, hopefully, to pass on all the
information you need to get the most out of the facilities at your disposal.
If you have queries regarding our club which are not covered in this page, please contact one of
our tennis section officials. See the contacts page for details.
New members are required to complete the appropriate application form duly signed, proposed, seconded
and then sent by post to the company address (listed in the application form) or returned to the club's
internal mailbox. Forms can be collected at the club pavilion or downloaded from
here.
A deposit of £10 is normally payable with the application form and there is an Entrance Fee set
at the level of 10% of a first subscription (see below).
For those members who have juniors in any section, there is a family discount of 10% on the total
subscription due.

The Club House
The front door has a coded security lock. This will be changed periodically, but not
without informing all existing members. The noticeboards in the entrance hall generally
contain plenty of items of interest. Check the one to your right for tennis info - team fixtures, tournament draws,
social tennis calendar, etc.
Juniors will find their own notices on the board along the corridor to the left, next to
the match scorecards.
The changing rooms and toilets are just through the doorway
to the right of the junior noticeboard.
Focus of the social scene is the club bar, the entrance to which is to the left of the
junior board. This is actually staffed by the members themselves which has the undoubted benefit of keeping the prices
down to the bare minimum! There is a staffing rota for certain popular times when you can be guaranteed to be able to
get a drink, notably Friday evenings from 9:30pm until closing and Sunday lunch-times between noon and 2pm - but there
is frequently a bar key-holder around on other evenings who will open up on demand. You'll soon get to know who they
are - or you could always volunteer to join a rota!
We have a spacious function room which can be found through the double doors to the right
from the entrance hall. Other Club sections such as table-tennis,
bridge, country dancing,
art class and indoor bowls make good use of this room on a regular
basis, but there are many general social events that take place in here too - keep an eye on the noticeboards for news
of forthcoming activities. There is a fire exit leading out from the function room.
There is also a good-sized kitchen, which is used to good effect by members of all sections,
as and when required. The first aid cabinet can be found in the kitchen, opposite the
central heating boiler. There is a public pay-phone immediately to your left as you enter
the building, directly opposite the tennis noticeboard.
Bits and Bobs
New balls may be purchased at very reasonable rates (currently £4 per tube of 4)
from either of our tennis captains or our coach.
Floodlight tokens cost £1 each for adults, 50p for juniors, and may be purchased from either
Chris Gee (tel: 2307630) or Wilf Jessop (tel. 2301704). One token gives half-an-hour's play and the meters are located in
the small storeroom across the corridor from the bar - just ask if you're not sure how to work them. Be aware, though,
that the floodlights operate on an automatic cut-out at 9:30pm
(8:30pm on Sundays).
Used balls for members' use are located on the racks near the changing rooms.
They are replenished quite frequently to ensure balls of a reasonable quality are always available - please remember
to return them after use!
Visitors
Visitors may be brought to play by members for a maximum of 3 times. They must be signed
in and the appropriate fees placed in one of the envelopes provided next to the visitors' book in the entrance hall.
Any visitors fees paid are deducted from the first year's subscription so it's better for visitors if they join the Club!
You can come and play as the guest of a member or, if you don't know any members, you can contact our chairman, or one of the
other officials, who will show you round the club and organise a game for you, if appropriate. We also have Open Days when we
encourage members and non-members to come and play, meet others, have a drink etc.
Visitors fees, initially, are £2 per day for adults and £1
for juniors. Visitors who subsequently join may have any visitors fees paid deducted from their membership fees.
Social Events
The club has a Social Committee that organises various activities throughout the year, such as Barn Dances, Quizzes,
Dinners, etc. You can find an up-to-date list of these on the noticeboard directly opposite the front door.
Watch out also for tennis section events such as pre-season nights out (one for the "girls", one for the "boys"),
Bank Holiday Tournaments, Caribbean Nights, etc. There is also a big end-of-season event, e.g. a Barbecue & Disco
in September - one of the high-spots of the year!
Click here to view a detailed calendar of events.
Other sections
Beside tennis, there are also a number of other sections you may be interested in:
Bowls - Outdoor in the summer but also short-mat indoors bowls in the winter.
Table Tennis - Mainly a winter activity. Practices and matches take place in the our function room.
Bridge - All year round, meeting nights vary according to the season.
Country Dancing - Regular get-togethers plus Barn Dances and Line Dancing for anyone.
